Classification of tee fittings

Table of Contents

Tee is also known as pipe fittings tee or tee fittings, tee joints, etc. Mainly used to change the direction of the fluid, used in the main pipe to branch pipe.

Tees can be classified according to the size of the pipe diameter, they are commonly made of carbon steel, cast steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum, plastic, argon chrome leaching, PVC, and other materials.

Tee has three ports, i.e. one inlet and two outlets; or two inlets and one outlet. There are T-shaped and Y-shaped, equal, and reducer orifices, which are used for three different or identical pipelines to converge.

01 Divided by pipe size

Classification of tee fittings

Equal diameter tees: the pipe ends are all of the same sizes.

Unequal diameter tees: the main pipe receiver end size is the same, while the branch pipe end size is smaller than the main pipe end size.

02 Divided by process

Classification of tee fittings

Hydraulic expansion: using a dedicated hydraulic press device, inject liquid into the pipe billet with the same diameter as the tee and squeeze it through the two horizontal side cylinders of the hydraulic press synchronously, the volume of the pipe billet becomes smaller after extrusion, the liquid in the pipe billet increases in pressure as the volume of the pipe billet becomes smaller, and the metal material flows along the inner cavity of the die under the dual action of the side cylinders and the liquid pressure in the pipe billet and expands the branch pipe.

The hydraulic expansion process of the tee can be formed at one time with high production efficiency.

Hot press forming: The pipe billet, which is larger than the diameter of the tee, is flattened to about the size of the tee diameter, and a hole is made in the part where the branch pipe is stretched; the pipe billet is heated and put into the forming mold, and the punching die for stretching the branch pipe is installed in the pipe billet; the pipe billet is compressed radially under the action of pressure, and the metal flows in the direction of the branch pipe during the process of radial compression and forms the branch pipe under the stretching of the punching die.

The whole process is formed by the radial compression of the billet and the stretching process of the branch part.

Unlike the hydraulic expansion tee, the metal of the hot-pressed tee branch is compensated by the radial movement of the billet, so it is also called the radial compensation process.

The heat makes the material soften and easier to form, so a small machine is enough. Hot pressed tee has wide adaptability to materials and is suitable for low carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel materials; especially for large diameter and thick walled tee, this forming process is commonly applied.
